Electrify Your Online Dating Photos

By Marnie On January 7, 2009 Under Dating Tips, For Men, For Women, Online Dating

So you’ve signed up to the latest online dating site. You fill out your profile, upload your picture, and go to bed, happily envisioning the many responses you’ll have the next day. You wake up. Your inbox has three to four messages. All from people you’re not really interested in. What happened?

Blink. That’s how fast people make judgments. Men, more visual-oriented than women, make their dating decisions 90% based on the photo. In the blink of an eye.

Women are less quick to judge from photo alone, but don’t fool yourself — an awesome photo is KEY.

So what can you do?

Get A Killer Main Photo

There’s no better way to standout than to get a professionally shot photo. Lookbetteronline.com is my favorite for this. They have photographers in 600 cities who’ll give you top-quality photos for a fraction of what others charge.

A free alternative is to hook up with a photographer from modelmayhem.com. The site is full of photographers itching to build a portfolio, and they’ll be willing to take your pictures for free (with the exception that they get to use your photos in their portfolio). Of course if you go this route, you’ll have to do your own makeup and hair, so a visit to the salon is in order.

Dress classy.

Unless you want to get a constant barrage of one night stand emails. Business attire, t-shirts and jeans are all acceptable. Shirtless (for the guys) and bikini shots are a no-no.

  1. Look straight into the camera
  2. Smile (releases endomorphin). It makes a difference.
  3. No shades
  4. No Star Wars characters in the background. Show mountains, elite shops, lakes, happiness.
  5. Limit yourself to three photos: a head shot (from the shoulders up), and two full length shots

Conclusion

Well that’s it! Let me know if this helps you on the path to the perfect photo!
